Overview
This playbook walks you through creating a new matter from the Case Load Dashboard. Completing the matter profile ensures the case is properly configured and ready for engagement, tracking, and workflow automation.
Before You Begin
- You must be logged into your LitiSync account.
- Have the client’s contact information available.
- Know the appropriate practice area, cause(s) of action, and jurisdiction for the matter.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Start a New Matter
From the Case Load Dashboard, select + New Matter.
2. Identify the Party Role
Select whether the matter represents a Plaintiff or Defendant.
3. Enter Primary Contact Information
Provide the following details:
- Primary First Name
- Primary Last Name
- Company (optional)
- Primary Email
- Primary Phone Number
You can add additional clients in the Who’s Who feature.
4. Add Adverse Party Information
Select whether the primary adverse party is a individual or a company. You must add either a first and last name OR a company name to continue. If you want to add additional adverse parties to the matter, you can do this after the case is set up using the Who’s Who feature.
5. Select the Practice Area
Choose the Practice Area that best fits the matter from the available list of over 25 practice areas.
6. Select Cause(s) of Action
Choose the applicable Cause(s) of Action associated with the matter. If you need one that is not represented, contact support@litisync.com and we can work with you to configure system Cause of Actions to suit your practice.
7. Set Jurisdiction
Indicate whether the matter is State or Federal, then complete the jurisdiction details:
- For State matters: Select the State and County
- For Federal matters: Select the Federal District
8. Save the Matter
Review the information entered and select Create Matter to add the case to your dashboard.
What Happens Next
Once created, the matter will appear on your Case Load Dashboard and can immediately be used for client engagement, intake workflows, document generation, and case tracking. LitiSync will begin processing the matter automatically, including initiating client contact and organizing the facts associated with the case.

Can I edit the matter after creating it?
Yes. You can edit the matter profile at any time from the Case Load Dashboard.
Who do I enter as the primary contact?
This individual should be someone closely familiar with the facts of the matter—ideally the principal person you are representing. The contact entered during matter setup is the person LitiSync will engage with to gather case facts, develop chronologies, and collect strategy-related input.
What if I have more than one client Im representing?
Add the primary client contact you are representing when setting up the matter. Additional clients or related individuals can be added later in the Who’s Who feature.
Can I add more adverse parties later?
Yes. Additional adverse parties can be added through the Who’s Who feature.
What if I’m unsure of the jurisdiction or cause of action?
You can update these details later after the matter has been created.
